Tom Berry Jr. inherits Pro Late Model Tour victory at Benton County
Tom Berry Jr.’s weekend took an unexpected turn, but ultimately concluded on a high note with his first Late Model win in his home state of Iowa.
The weekend opened Friday at Mississippi Thunder Speedway, where Berry was slated to compete in the Modified division of the Dairyland Showdown. After timing in fourth-fastest in his 18-car qualifying group, Berry’s outing was cut short by terminal engine issues, forcing him to withdraw from the remainder of the event.
Regrouping back in Iowa on Saturday, Berry climbed behind the wheel of the Rick and Mia Dralle-owned No. 11 Late Model to take on the Karl Chevrolet Pro Late Model Tour at Independence Motor Speedway. He showed speed throughout the evening, winning his heat race and finishing second in the feature.
In a field of 16 Karl Chevrolet Pro Late Model Tour entries on Sunday at Benton County Speedway, Berry mirrored his result in the feature with a runner-up outing, however he was awarded the victory after the initial race-winner was penalized.
The $2,000 win marked his third victory of the season.
Returning to Modified action on Monday at Clay County Fair Speedway, Berry’s night ended prematurely with a lap-eight retirement in the 20-lap main event.
